20 Questions with
We recently sat down with Kasey, a long time stylist here at HBYD to play a fun game of 20 Question. Hair Stylist Edition! :)
Q) When did you decide to become a hairstylist?
A) When I was a little kid, I’ve always wanted to be a hairdresser.
Q) What Cosmetology school did you go to?
A) Brio Academy.
Q) When did you start working at HBYD?
A) I started working at HBYD in 2010! So I’ve been here for 8 years.
Q) What or who inspires you?
A) I watch a lot of videos of other professional hairstylist and I think to myself ‘I can do that this way, I can add this to it, take this away from it or change this’. It pushes me to better my craft.
Q) What is the last educational course you took?
A) We just had a L'Oréal refresher course and I'm actually going to a balayage class at SoHo Academy in October.
Q) Do you have any advice for someone who is thinking about becoming a hairstylist?
A) Be creative! Be committed.
Q) What is your favorite classic hairstyle/haircut?
A) Any classic short hairstyle. It’s more creative, its a little more challenging to create which I like.
Q) What is the last hairstyle/haircut that you googled?
A) I look up a lot of corrective colors. I like to look up videos of hair fails too haha.
Q) What is your favorite styling tool?
A) I love a blow dryer, its the best tool.
Q) In your opinion, what are three styling products every girl needs to have?
A) Dream Coat by Color Wow, L’Oréal 10-in-1 Spray and any of the three Dual Styler products from Tecni.Art.
Q) What do you think is the most important haircare step at home?
A) I think conditioning treatments and thermal protection sprays are the most important thing for an at home haircare routine.
Q) What do you think is the biggest hair trend right now?
A) I don’t think there is a trend currently. I think everything is in right now. Short hair, long hair, dark hair, blonde hair and cool ashy tones. You want it you can have it.
Q) Do you have any advice for a client who is thinking about doing a big change with their look/style?
A) Do it! Talk to your stylist of course, but do it! Haha.
Q) What color technique do you think is perfect for Fall?
A) I think it really depends on the persons skin tone. People think that because its fall they have to go brown or copper and you don’t necessarily have to. I think a blonde can stay really blonde but just change the tone of it.
Q) On what basis do you recommend hairstyles to clients?
A) Their personal style.
Q) How often, for the average person, should we be shampooing our hair?
A) Depends on your lifestyle and hair type, I don’t think there is an ‘average’ per se.
Q) What is your favorite Men’s cut to do?
A) The hard part with a good fade.
Q) What is a product every guy should have?
A) Conditioner, more men need to use conditioner. It will help a lot more with their scalp and hair health.
Q) How important is the maintenance of a hairstyle?
A) Depends on the person and their hairstyle. If its a shorter hairstyle and the persons hair grows quickly it could be every two weeks, some people can wait four weeks. It just depends.
Q) What is your favorite hair quote?
A) “Everything has beauty but not everyone can see it”.
